The concept was first known in the beginning of 1920s.  Cubism and Futurism both convinced the term, Precisionism. The major themes are industrialization and the modernization of the American landscape as these were portrayed precisely. The geometrical forms are stridently defined as well. The concepts were based on the streamlined architecture and the machinery of the beginning of the 1900s.

The artists of the Precision named themselves American strictly and tried to bypass the European artistic influences. In the movement, the respect on the industrial age is visualized. However, the social comment was not a major issue to the fashion. The variation of abstraction in the progression started from The Figure 5 in Gold from 1928 of Charles Demuth to the work of Charles Sheeler verging on the photorealistic. Including paintings, Charles Sheer prepared the photographs of factories and the buildings of the industry comparing with the photographer friend, Paul Strand. The paintings of Precision reserved a very smoother and precise technique; sharply it is delineated colors and the geometrical forms. The precisionists never appeared as a group. However, these precisionists were linked with their painting styles and the subjects. The works of the American photographers convinced Precisionism and they were Paul Strand born in 1890 and died in 1976.  Paul used to take a sharpen focus and lighting, unassuming cropping and viewpoint. Pop art offered a challenge to the conventional fine art with the involvement of imagery that was derived from the well liked traditions including advertising, and news.  The ingredients from the Pop art are visually eliminated from its known context, isolated and or it combines with the irrelevant ingredients. The term of Pop art is not recognized how it appears as a leading one.

Pop art involved the features of the mass culture including advertising, comic books and the mundane cultural objects. It reacts to the abstract expressionism appearing as the leading ideas. Because of the utilization of the objects and images that are found; it is comparable with Dada. The Pop art likes to incorporate the images of the popular cultures and it is opposition of exclusive culture in the art. It concentrates on the ordinary or vulgar ingredients in any found tradition and it is often based on satire. It is also related with the mechanical means of the artist that is depending upon the re-manufacturing or the descriptive techniques. Most of the Pop arts are dissimilar. The most of the conceptual practices are often used that helps it become difficult for something to willingly realize. The Pop art and the Minimalism are thought to be art progressions preceding the post-modern art. Pop art takes the imagery that is contemporary using in the modern advertising.  The artists of the Pop art choose the product labeling and the logos figure appearing in the mental images prominently. The examples can be the Soup Cans labels of the Campbell based on the Andy Warhol. The labeling on the shipping carton is the subject matter in the Pop art as well.

The Plop art is used to describe the different types including Abstraction, Modernism, or the Contemporary Artworks. It focuses on the sculptures mostly. These can be seen in front the corporate houses, plazas, parks, and the other public places. Plop art can also be considered in a pessimistic view. The progressive seemed to be critical about the relationship between the public art and the architecture as many public arts failed to sustain in an environmentally-oriented approach. However, the conservatives preferred this term because it showed something that is formless, meaningless or hideous appearing without any real skill or any proper care.

As said by many people, the word plop indicated something that appeared mistakenly. In recent times, the protectors of the public art tried to retrieve the term. The book Plop: Recent Projects of the Public Art Fund rejoices the success of the Public Art Fund as many public art works are financed over the last decades. Many of them became adored. However, in the beginning this term was ridiculed as ploppings. There are progressions in the contemporary art including the environmental sculpture, site specific art or land art counterbalancing them as philosophically the plop art is considered the conventional public monumental.

La Grande Vitesse, the sculpture of Alexander Calder was placed in the Grand Rapids. Michigan in 1966 and it is thought to be the defining moment in the history of art. The criticisms and appreciations regarding the artwork guided the intervention of an entire new industry of Plop Art.  The term Plop art indicated the larger object or the sculptures that are placed in front of the public place, inappropriately. Fundamentally, the random slopes of the Plop Art shows the capacity, originality and the thoughts of the related artists to utilize a space for dominantly affecting the local people.
